ECT news-

Greetings from the Education Coaching Team,

I am proud to announce that there are two new team members ready and eager to assist the chapters!  Jennifer (Smith) Neideroest will be working with the Beta Theta chapter, Heather Kramer will be with the Zeta Tau chapter, and I will be working with the rest of the chapters.

The team members will be contacting the respective Vice President of Membership Education to introduce themselves, ask for a calendar of events, and assist their chapter(s) in any way they can. The team can answer questions regarding Advantage, risk management, standards, and many other topics.  Each team member would also like to attend an Advantage event to visit the campus, meet the Advantage Support Team and advisor, and to see how the chapter is implementing Advantage and where the coaching team may be of use.  Each chapter is unique and we feel it will be beneficial to the chapters and the team if we have a better idea of each chapter's character and campus life.

More good news is that the updated ASA Advantage Initiative is here!!  The chapters will receive the updated version when they order it for their new members.  Active members will continue to work with their current modules however, if they wish to work with the new modules the chapter will have to purchase additional copies.  Your team member will be able to update you on the changes.

I am very excited that the coaching team has grown and will be able to work with each chapter more closely.  We are more than willing to answer any questions you have, visit your chapter and give presentations, and provide you with any materials to benefit your chapter.

I wish you all a great start to the new semester and with recruiting more fabulous ladies into Alpha Sigma Alpha.

RCT news-

Unlike many of our sisters, I knew when I started college that I wanted to be in a sorority. In one of my first classes, we did an ice breaker, talking to the person sitting next to us and then introducing each other to the entire class. When my classmate introduced me, one of the things she noted was that I was interested in joining a sorority. That was Fall 2001. I don't know if it was intimidation or lack of motivation, but it was not until Spring 2003 that I made the commitment to join ASA, when I only had one year left of college. Even then, it took someone else inviting me; I would have never had the courage to approach a sorority on my own. Membership in Alpha Sigma Alpha is an opportunity and a privilege. One that, without someone else's encouragement, I would have never had the chance to enjoy.

Welcome back to the 2007-2008 school year. I am excited to continue as the District Five Recruitment Coaching Team Lead. This year, my goal will be to get to know your campuses better and your individual chapters better. I hope you are as excited as I am about Fall Recruitment and about giving other women the chance to see why Alpha Sigma Alpha is so special. It is not for numbers but because I love Alpha Sigma Alpha so much that it is my goal to give as many other women the opportunity to love it as well. I hope you will join me in this endeavor.

District Advisory Board Liaison News

The district advisory board liaison is a new volunteer position in ΑΣΑ’s district structure.  I’ve been the chapter advisor for the Delta Sigma Chapter for over ten years, and during that time there have been many occasions that I needed a quick question answered, or an interpretation of the national by-laws, or just someone to talk with who was in my same position.

As the advisory board liaison for District 5, I serve as a support for all the advisors.  Please feel free to contact me at klopez@svsu.edu or 989-964-4661 as questions arise.

We are planning an advisor training track for District Days, February 1 and 2, 2008.  Mark your calendars now.  In the meantime, though, please consider registering for the active Advisor Group on the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sister Circle network.  Information is available on the ΑΣΑ website.  Advisors from around the country will respond to your posted questions giving you advice and suggestions based on what’s worked for them.

I am very excited to get started with this position.  I can’t say that I’ve got all the answers, but the district structure provides all of us with the resources we need to help you.
